«My man is nothing if he is not rhythmic»
The execution of short rhythmic motives in recordings of Clara Schumann’s students
Sebastian Bausch
Historical recordings are inestimable, if also irritating witnesses of lost interpretation traditions. The author presents recordings of Clara Schumann’s students, replaces them in their context, and proposes a method of analysis and differential description of those documents with regards to written sources.
At the core of this research lies the question whether concurring interpretation styles in the 19th century can be identified and distinguished.
