Musical Positions Between Fun and Protest Culture

Musicians from Africa, Asia and South America work on sounds and sonic shapes according to the principles of avant-garde, Pop avant-garde and Jamaican «Bass Culture». They interact in globalized networks and formulate self-conscious postcolonial positions. The many parodies of Exotica and thematic focus on violence and war indicate how present are the old dependencies on today’s real market. This article attempts an overview, basing itself on empirical data from Lebanon and aural expericence from other countries.
